1. “If I make a donation, how I can know how it will be used?

SOLIDARIDAD uses donated funds as effectively and efficiently as possible in health projects (Nutrition Outreach Center, Operation Band-Aid, Emergency Solidarity rooms and Infant Nutrition Maternal and Child Hospital)

SOLIDARIDAD gives the donor detailed information of their donation.

2. What is the most important goal of solidarity SOLIDARIDAD?

Substantially improve the living conditions of children in Honduras through the reduction of child malnutrition.

3. Is SOLIDARIDAD “legally established”?

Solidarity is legally established by resolution 032-94 Legal Status 21 April 1994. It is also registered as a nonprofit organization in Honduras in the Ministry of Interior affairs.

4. Who founded SOLIDARIDAD?

A group of young Hondurans interested in working on the problem of health and education of children living in poverty.

5. Who are the members of SOLIDARIDAD?

A group of Honduran volunteers, students and professionals involved with children in Honduras with the desire to help with their ideas, time and resources to substantially improve the living conditions of children.

6. What population attends SOLIDARIDAD?

SOLIDARITY serves families in extreme poverty if one of their young members suffers from severe malnutrition. The families come from disadvantaged sectors of the country.

7. Why serve this population?

SOLIDARIDAD is focused on tomorrow’s Hondurans. For the country to develop, it is necessary for the inhabitants to reach their highest potential. Childhood is a momentous stage in life at which children should maintain their nutritional status for growth and development, preventing it from causing irreversible damage to their future.

8. What is malnutrition?

According to the World Food Program (WFP), malnutrition is more a measure of what is eaten or not eaten. Malnutrition is characterized by the inadequate intake of protein, calories (energy) and micronutrients, as well as by frequent infections and diseases in humans. When deprived of proper nutrition, people can die from common infections such as diarrhea or measles.

9. How long does it take a little one to recover from malnutrition?

According to experts, a child may take six months to a year to fully recover from malnutrition, as long as he/she stays with adequate food, vitamins and supplements if required.

10. How I can help SOLIDARIDAD?

If you live in Honduras, you can donate your time and talents as active members. You also have the opportunity to become contributing members in endorsing the the work of active members, cooperating with donations in kind and cash.

11. How does SOLIDARIDAD ensure that the aid provided has an impact on children with malnutrition?

A socio-economic review of the situation of the patient is made by a social worker, afterwards a by follow-up is been made for monitoring visits to the family, posting a record of weight and height of each of children to analyze the evolution of nutritional status. Additionally, SOLIDARIDAD provides educational lectures to parents on issues related to nutrition, personal hygiene, preventive health and personal finance, among others.

12. How are donations used in SOLIDARIDAD?

Because 90% SOLIDARIDAD functions on volunteer efforts, a large part of the budget is spent directly on programs, projects and activities to reduce severe malnutrition suffered by children who join the Association.
