What We Do

Our Programs:

Centro Nutricional Solidario

Centro Nutricional Solidario (Nutrition Outreach Center) is a comprehensive program of assistance to malnourished children in our country: Honduras. The pilot project started under the name of “Special Cases”, and started some years ago with the concept of helping children infected with HIV. Children with a severe degree of malnutrition were referred to our organization by the Social Work Department of the Hospital Materno Infantil de Honduras (Honduras’s Maternal and Child Hospital). Now, several years later, the Program provides complete nutritional support through the delivery of a basic  food basket (predominantly composed of milk and other items carefully selected by a nutritionist), measurement of height and weight, various educational activities (workshops on Preventive Health Care, Dental Care, Treatment of  Common Diseases, Self Esteem, Micro finance, crafts) and basic health care to 50 families in extreme poverty with malnourished children under 5 years of age.

Operativo Curita (Operation Band-aid)

The Operation Band-aid program provides free medication to the malnourished ward at Hospital Materno Infantil of Honduras. The TIGO fund supports this program, which has assisted more than 500 children in two wards of the medical center. Each week, SOLIDARIDAD meets with the medical staff, nurses, social workers and parents to directly help the malnourished children at the hospital.

Emergencia Solidaria (Solidarity Emergency)

In order to provide immediate and direct assistance, the Emergency Solidarity Program was created in 2005. This program focuses on serving poor families whose children (the wards of the Hospital Materno Infatil de Honduras) need help with extraordinary medical examinations, special medicines, funeral expenses for death of infants or any other pressing need.

Investigacion y Desarrollo (Research and Development)

Research & Development (R & D) represents the formal commitment of solidarity for the reduction of child malnutrition in Honduras. The role of R & D is intended for the collection and analysis of the statistics that show the social situation in Honduras. Its role also encompasses the investigation of national and international documents in order to broaden perspectives and facilitate the study of the most critical variables to help find ways to solve problems relating to the quality of local life, with particular emphasis on child malnutrition.

Sala de Nutricion (Nutrition Ward)

The project of the Nutrition Ward at Hospital Materno Infantil de Honduras was conceived as a social project with the aim of improving care for children in this ward. The project includes the renovation and maintenance of the infrastructure of the ward, as well as its equipment and basic medical care to achieve a correct operation. Similarly, the project will provide training geared toward the areas of nutrition, motivation and psychology for nurses, doctors and social workers, thereby improving the care they provide to patients and family. The project also seeks to build a database to help you make informed decisions on the issue of child malnutrition.
